Hello, my name is Johnny Dale, and I’m the author of The Darling Budds.
The Darling Budds takes place in the Garden District section of New Orleans, which is where I lived for about twelve years, in a old mansion that had been split up into tiny little apartments. (I had the tiniest, littlest one.)
When I started writing the story, my goal was to capture at least a small part of the New Orleans I knew, one that wasn’t so much about the French Quarter or Mardi Gras as it was riding bikes through Uptown on damp summer evenings.
